Kurt Cobain would have turned 50 today (February 20, 2017) and his daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, posted a little letter for her dad. Alternative Press reported that this letter, posted on Frances’ Instagram, reads:

“Today would have been your 50th birthday. You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me the GIFT of life.”

The article also contains a screen-shot of a text conversation between Frances and her grandmother. Her grandmother wrote about how smugly proud Kurt would be of here. You can read the full conversation here.

Kurt Cobain’s tragic suicide ended a future for Nirvana, but the bands music still plays over countless radio stations, YouTube, streaming apps, and more. If you’ve never listened to Nirvana, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite songs (in no particular order). If you don’t wanna search the songs, then just check out their acoustic show on MTV Unplugged. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Nirvana Songs You Need To Check Out:

  • Pennyroyal Tea
  • Lithium
  • Where Did You Sleep Last Night
  • Man Who Sold The World (cover)
  • Drain You
  • Come As You Are
  • Heart Shaped Box
  • Scentless Apprentice
  • Smells Like Teen Spirit (duh)
